Kirsten F. Block is director of education, professional development and outreach at the ASBMB. She earned a Ph.D. in molecular, cellular and developmental biology from Yale University and held a postdoc at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine before making the leap into scientific and professional society management. Upon completion of her training, Block joined the American Association of Colleges of Pharmacy in 2014 as the associate director of research and graduate programs, later advancing to director of research and graduate programs before moving to ASBMB in January 2020. Having spent most of her career at ASBMB in the middle of a pandemic, her work feels incomplete without at least a couple Zoom meetings each day. She is passionate about supporting the STEM workforce and in particular enhancing transferrable skills that set scientists up for success in a breadth of careers.
