Student Chapters Travel Award

The Student Chapters Travel Award provides up to $500 to support a designated undergraduate student chapter member to present their research at ASBMB Annual Meeting.

  • This award is designated at the discretion of the chapter faculty adviser.
  • Each chapter with five or more members may designate one awardee. Chapters with 20 or more members may designate two award recipients.

Award requirements and eligibility

  • The undergraduate student must be a member of an active chapter that has paid its 2024–2025 chapter dues by Dec. 9.
  • The undergraduate student must submit an abstract as the primary author (first author) by the abstract deadline of 11:59 p.m. Eastern on Dec. 2. Advisers should not submit on behalf of a student/trainee.
  • The undergraduate student must select the check box to be considered for the undergraduate poster competition during the abstract submission process.
  • The undergraduate student must upload a certification form signed by their chapter adviser that confirms they are the chapter’s designee.
  • Failure to attend the meeting and participate in the required events as detailed below will disqualify a student from receiving the award.

Participation requirements

  • Award recipients are required to participate fully in the conference. All requirements will be outlined in the travel award notification letter.
  • Selected applicants are REQUIRED to present their abstract at the assigned date and time at the 2025 ASBMB Annual Meeting in Chicago. Presentation may be scheduled on Sunday, April 13, Monday, April 14, or Tuesday, April 15, 2025. You may not choose your assigned date of presentation and presentation date cannot be changed once assigned. Awardees who do not present their abstract at the scheduled date and time will forfeit their award funds.
    • Abstract programming notifications will be sent in late January stating the date, time and format of scheduled presentation.
    • Check the important dates page for notification timeline and early registration deadline.
  • Attendance at the Undergraduate Student Orientation on Saturday, April 12.
  • Completion of post-conference survey.

If you have not been designated by your chapter's faculty adviser as the recipient, do not apply for this award.
