Member spotlight: Allison Augustus–Wallace

Allison Augustus–Wallace is an associate professor and director of Academic Pipeline Programs for Diversity at LSU Health Sciences Center in New Orleans.

What is your research focus?

“Formerly, the study of the mechanistic, enzymatic function of the E3 Ligases, Nedd4.1 and Nedd4.2, of the ubiquitin-conjugation system. Currently, my works seeks to increase the presence of historically excluded faculty and students in the medical and biomedical workforces, via the use of the anti-discriminatory/anti-racism/inclusion enterprise, to promote health equity and health outcomes.”

How has being a member of ASBMB helped you along the way?

“Membership has provided me with opportunities to increase my network of colleagues, as well as to continue lifelong learning within the context of biochemistry and molecular biology, and the other areas that it is connected.”

Who are your heroes/heroines?

“My parents and my husband.”

What have you learned from your work that applies to the rest of your life?

“'Past is prologue'; to enjoy learning, which I do; and to be my very best self.”
