Preparing for careers in research and teaching

Join members of the University of Nebraska biosciences community in a day of talks and networking aimed at helping graduate students and postdocs prepare for careers in research and teaching.

Sathish Kumar Natarajan, an assistant professor of nutrition and health sciences at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, will introduce the life of postdocs and how graduate students can choose a good postdoc lab. He will also discuss his own experience of transitioning from postdoc to junior faculty member at a land-grant university, give advice on preparing a good CV, cover letter, teaching philosophy and research statement, and provide information on various awards available from the NIH.

Charles Klinetobe, coordinator of postdoctoral education and research at the University of Nebraska Medical Center, will talk about the need for effective communications skills in a successful bioscience career. He will give tips for successfully communicating one's research via publishing, grant applications, conference talks, networking, job interviews or teaching.
