Addressing emerging science-related issues
The ASBMB weighs in on various emerging issues that affect its members, such as research security policies, open access and public mistrust of science.
The society argues that our nation can safeguard intellectual property and keep bad actors in check without stifling collaboration, discriminating, or making America a less attractive destination for hardworking and creative scientists from abroad. The society supports programs and policies that make the U.S. more attractive to international scholars and that enable scientific international collaborations.
The ASBMB also appreciates that (1) scientific knowledge is a global public good that enriches and advances humanity and (2) that the practitioners of science must also be good citizens. Our publications are open access, and we provide training for our members to responsibly communicate their findings both formally and informally.
