The Paul and Daisy Soros Fellowship for New Americans
August 31, 2010 -- Supports green card holders, naturalized citizens or the child of at least one naturalized parent for up to two years of graduate study in any subject in any US institution. First year graduate student are eligible. The fellowship provides $25,000 plus 1/2 tuition (up to $20,000 per academic year). Deadline is 11/1/10. Lear more.
Cheryl Kerfeld is Winner of 2011 Education Award
August 19, 2010 -- Cheryl A. Kerfeld, a structural biologist and the head of the Department of Energy Joint Genome Institute's Education and Structural Genomics Program, is the winner of the 2011 ASBMB Award for Exemplary Contributions to Education. Kerfeld, who also serves as an adjunct professor at the University of California, Berkeley, was named the winner for encouraging effective teaching and learning of biochemistry and molecular biology through her own teaching, leadership in education, writing, educational research, mentoring and public enlightenment. The award consists of a plaque, a $3,000 cash prize and travel expenses for the recipient to present a plenary lecture at the ASBMB annual meeting. More about ASBMB Awards.

NRC Releases Draft Conceptual Framework for New Science Education Standards
July 16, 2010 -- The National Research Council has released a 190-page document that lays the foundation for what core science ideas, cross-cutting concepts, and scientific practices all students need to succeed in science, and is seeking public comment from science educators and other stakeholders through August 2.
