Outreach Support Award
The American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology
Undergraduate Affiliate Network – Outreach Support Award
Purpose: To encourage UAN Chapters to provide outreach events to K-12 schools in their region to promote STEM education and careers in biochemistry and molecular biology.
Eligibility: Any active UAN Chapter interested in providing outreach activities to area K-12 schools.
Number of Awards: Each region of the UAN will have a total of 2 awards in the amount of $250 each to be made to UAN Chapters. Each UAN chapter can request funding for a maximum of 1 award.
Chapter Responsibilities: The UAN Chapter receiving funding from the Outreach Support Award will be responsible for:
- Coordinating with the local K-12 schools to provide outreach events
- Organizing exciting, hands-on activities for K-12 students to promote STEM education and Biochemistry and Molecular Biology Careers
- Accurately Reporting the following information to the UAN Regional Directors and ASBMB Administrator:
- The name of the schools and classrooms that were visited including teachers name, grade level and number of students involved.
- Photos from the outreach event for the UAN Regional Website
Application Materials: The application process involves sending a 1 to 2 Page Letter to the regional UAN director. The letter should include:
- UAN Chapter Name and project coordinator
- The schools and grade levels targeted in the outreach program
- The estimated number of K-12 students and teachers impacted by the outreach program
- A description of the UAN Chapter’s previous involvement in K-12 outreach and type of events sponsored in the past.
- Potential match from UAN chapters school
Application Deadline: Rolling applications with a deadline of March 6, 2009
All Applications Must be Submitted to Your Regional Director.
Award Announcement: March 20, 2009
